Winter tour, beaking up, & a last show

It has been a while since we posted an update, but Deathrats have been laying low for a little bit. After about 3 years Deathrats will be calling it a day. Everyone in the band has new bands and focuses that we are focusing our attention on, and although we all still love this band, we feel it is an appropriate time to move on.

We won't be going out without a last hurrah, though. We are currently planning one last tour through the mid-west (sorry to everyone who has asked us to come west or south). We will be hitting the road with State Violence the last week of the year.

Right now we have one show later this month and plans for a last show, but there might be other shows between them. In terms of a last show, it looks like January 13th will be it. Details are still in the works, but hopefully this will be the date. As more details come together we will let you all know.

The show on the 23rd is canceled. There was complications with the venue. As bummed as we all are, this will give us a chance to actually have the records ready for a release show. We will keep you all posted.

New 7" Give Up out soon

Hey folks,

The new record is in the works and hopefully almost done. It's called Give Up and will be a 7" on To Live A Lie Records. We are all really excited for this record and how good it sounds. Our good friends Izzy Jarvis and Nolan helped us with the art work. Izzy drew the cover and Nolan (who drew the image for our last shirt) drew the back and insert. I am sure Will at To Live A Lie will be doing mail order as soon as these are ready so if you can't make it to a show, make sure you grab one from him.

Our record release show is April 23rd at the EQB Lounge at American University. We are playing with The Shirks, Stripmines, Dry Spell, and Unholy Thoughts. This show is going to be a rager. We are not sure if the covers will be done in time for this so, if they aren't, we are going to screen print special covers. But lets hope we don't have to go through all that trouble.

Once the record is officially out, we will post ordering information.

Tour was amazing. Thank you so much to everyone who booked a show, gave us a place to sleep, cooked us food, and hung out with us. We are out of the 7" repress and shirts, but the new record is in the works. When we get more details on it we will let you all know. We have a few shows coming up in early 2011. One 1/22 with Draize and one during the first weekend of February with White Guilt (if you haven't gotten their new LP, get it).

Tour and Repress

The second week of December Deathrats will be embarking on a tour north, so that we can experience as much cold temperature as possible. We have mapped out a 9 day tour up the east coast into Canada for two shows and back down. If you live in any of these places and would like to help us out or know someone who can, please contact us at Deathratsdc@gmail.com.

Because we are still working on details to record our next record, it won't be ready for this tour. We decided, so that we have music for this tour and because we get emails pretty frequently asking for a record, that we are going to repress the 1st 7". Will from To Live A Lie Records has already put this into motion. As we get final details on that we will update you as well.

We are also out of medium shirts. Thanks for buying 'em. If you are a YL, Small, or Large and still want a shirt we still have some left.

Jeez! It has been a while

So some could say that a lot has happened since the last time we updated, but really I don't think there has been much going on. We played a few shows and have been slowly working on some new stuff. We were also interviewed in the September/October issue of MRR by our friends Will Butler and Gordy Tornado. As of now we have two shows coming up and one or two in the works. Outside of these shows we are taking sometime to 1. record for our next record and 2. recharge ourselves and motivations. We have all been working on new projects as well. Brad, Brian, and Christine are all in a band called State Violence, Christine is playing guitar in an awesome new band called Hot Mess, Brad is playing in a band called Teenage Hate and Brian and I are in two new bands one called Hubris and one called Pliant (or philistine or No graves, it's been a process). Brian and I have also started a record label called Hesitation Wound Records. Our first release is coming out pretty soon. We (Deathrats) are pretty excited to get our new stuff recorded as well as older stuff that has yet to be recorded. As plans for that roll in we will update you all.

DEATHRATS – One of the best hardcore demos I’ve heard in a longasstime. DEATHRATS play “dark and heavy” hardcore that is likely influenced by bands such as DROPDEAD, DEATHREAT, TO WHAT END?, and SKITSYSTEM among others, with a lot of great riffs, cool instrument breaks, crucial feedback at exactly the right moments, and vocal phrasing that works really well with the music, all played a bit faster than usual for this style. Christine's livid vocals seriously send chills down my spine, and there’s a refreshing earnesty and intelligence to her anger, as she takes on people that project their own misery onto how they treat others, how the male gaze keeps her from developing a positive self-image on her own terms, and how the need for girls to stop hating each other and band together is just as relevant now as it was in the heyday of Riot Grrl. All of this serves as further proof that girls/women in punk have more reason to be pissed than their male counterparts. Upcoming 7” on To Live A Lie Records, but get this in the meantime.
